Advancing Global Collaboration in Inner Ear Disorders
Overview
Founding Vision
MIES was created to address a permanent organizational framework for the International Symposium on Meniere’s Disease and Inner Ear Disorders. Its mission is to:
- Ensure continuity and smooth execution of future symposia.
- Facilitate regular academic exchange and global cooperation among experts.
- Promote cutting-edge research and clinical practices in Meniere’s disease and related inner ear conditions.
Leadership & Governance
- Co-Chairs:
Prof. Jun Yang (China) and Prof. Maoli Duan (China/Sweden), serving as Founding Chairs.
- Permanent Board:
Composed of distinguished members of the Symposium’s Advisory Board.
- Rotating Presidency:
The President of each triennial symposium automatically serves as MIES President until the next conference.
Organizational Structure
1. International Committee:
Formed from the Symposium’s International Faculty, with renowned experts representing all continents.
2. Membership Tiers:
- Permanent Board: Core governance body.
- International Committee: Regional conveners recommending experts.
- Ordinary Members: Open to researchers/clinicians (15 experts per nation; 30 from founding country China).
Key Initiatives
- Triennial International Symposium:
The flagship event ("International Symposium on Meniere’s Disease and Inner Ear Disorders") rotates globally via a bidding process.
Actively recruiting experts through International Committee conveners.
Future Directions
MIES will drive innovation in diagnosis, treatment, and research of inner ear disorders while building a collaborative platform for scientists, clinicians, and allied health professionals. The Society welcomes engagement from the global medical and academic community to advance this mission.

Overview
The Meniere and Inner Ear Society (MIES) is a newly established international academic organization founded in October 2024 following the successful 8th International Symposium on Meniere’s Disease and Inner Ear Disorders in Shanghai, China. Spearheaded by Prof. Jun Yang (Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, China) and Prof. Maoli Duan (Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, China /Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden), the Society aims to foster sustained collaboration, research, and clinical advancement in the field of inner ear disorders worldwide.
